For goodness sake

Sarah Champion is wrong to stand down from her post over her comments about sexual exploitation of white girls by Muslim men. Jeremy Corbyn is burying his head in the sand. This is indeed a race and cultural issue and it will not be satisfied by us, anybody regardless of religious leaning, hiding behind political correctness or a fear of being called racist or being so called respectful or disrespectful  of  religious faith. Being respectful of faith is a completely diferent issue. Sesual exploitation is not to be tolerated at all, by any faith or culture. We condemn and discuss sexual abuse carried out by Catholic priests. There is no difference in having the discussion. It is not in fact hard to see what the trouble is. Why cannot we be honest and open? Why is it so scary to condemn a culture of behaviour as wrong?

Past times

It is misplaced anger and demonstration, asking and demonstrating to have statues of old colonials such as Cecil Rhodes, and those who advocated and worked for white supremacy torn down. It seems to be a regular thing these days, for students and others to demand the destruction of statues of such people. Whilst, quite rightly, we do not side with such views, or at least most of us don't, and we do not celebrate or venerate such statues as the tributes to the individuals that was the point of putting them up in the first place, surely it would be much better and far more demonstative of the times and changing of times and views, that we put up alongside of the statue in question,  a little statue of some kind, and a text to say how proud we all are that we have moved on and that we carry far better, democratic and inclusive views now of society and all of it's citizens.

of course

Of course, you might say that calling people stupid is exactly the same as being horrid. Well you may be right, and in respect I would agree with you. However, enaging in nasty action before engaing the brain, cannot be said to be a smart move!

Of course

Of course, you might think that commenting on the stupidity of people is just the same as being horrid. Well in a way, I would probably agree with you, but, if one is not engaging the brain before engging in the act, one cannot say that one is being smart!

Evolution

There is yet another reference today in the news about people sending threatening and very nasty messages or comments over the internet to other people in the news for one reason or another. In this case, the parents and doctors and nurses dealing with a very sick baby in hospital and the disagreement over his care. The messages containing all kinds of horrible words, threats and Lord alone knows what else.

It is generally said that because people sending such stupidness and horribleness over the airwaves are not face to face with their victim, they feel emboldened to say horrid and cruel things in their anonimity. Well that does make sense up to a point. There is no menton of these peoples brains though which is clearly small and full of stupid, and there is no mention of the fact that these people were not, I imagine, brought up by their parents  to be horrible and cruel to their fellow citizens.

I should hate to think it is because we are a very silly race who cannot manage ourselves, although I believe we are not really smart enough to run the world in fact, but in fact I do put it down to that, because these people are really horrible and very stupid, and serve to confirm my assessment. Shame though that anyone would want to be known as cruel and stupid, even and if only to themselves.

Aeroplanes

I am not sure why anybody should give up their seat on an aeroplane if they do not want to. They have presumably paid for the seat and should expect to get the ride they paid for. If they choose to stay back and accept whatever offer is made by the plane company, that may be different, but only if they choose to. The air company's overbooking is not really the customers problem. Seems to be another case of the corporation passing their problem on to the customer and making life difficult, but easier for the company. Not on really.

Fines?

I have been listening this morning to an article on Braodcasting House about thefines that big companies are charged when they do wrong. Banks, Tesco for false accounting, Rolls Royce, Thames water etc. One of the speakers thought that large fines are a great deterent to other large firms who might be thinking to work in a corrupt way, and that the poor publicity damages the companies reputation. Well that may be true, but there is also a thought that the fines charged simply get passed onto the consumer through higher charges for services rendered, which is probably even more true.

Another speaker spoke of the issue about the ethos of a company's actions coming from the top, the operating board, and  that it is those executives who should be taken to account and that fines do not touch that aspect. Well even more true. There was even some talk of imprisoning the people at the top when wrong doing is discovered and that would be even more of a deterent. True again, although it never seems to happen.

I think that both of those things may be pursued of course, but there is an argument for thinking outside of this partiucular box and one that is much simpler than pursuing executives through the court. All we need to do is order the executives of the board to do public community service for two or three months. That would immediately stop wrong doing. No executive is going to risk such public shaming, and we, the public, would gain from a bit of elbow work from them in the community.

Sounds like a good plan eh?

Really

I have heard today that the government are wanting to put through a change to a woman's entitlement to child benefit payment.

In the first place, Child benefit is exactly what it says. A benefit for the child. This benefit was brought in originally as an acknowledgement of the governments commitment to supporting the children of the UK and ensure their welfare. That point seems to have been completely forgotten.

So, I heard today that a woman's right, (or in fact the child's right) to receiving this benefit, will be curtailed or cut in fact, if the woman does not admit or tell the authorities that the child she is expecing or is bringing up, was conceived as the result of a rape.

WHAT??!! Why do the goverment want to humiliate women I wonder?

I find this unbelievable and immoral, and even though I know this goverment to be happy to work with immoral ideas, I still cannot believe this. !!! It is wrong on so many level that it surelycanot be true. Masbe it is the 1st April and I have been asleep for six months.

BLAME

There is a phrase that nobody qoutes anymore, but it goes along the lines of, 'Its the rich wot gets the goodies, and the poor wot gets the blame'. Its a misquote I know for those of you that remember it, but it occurs to me that it is a quote loosely able to be applied to the current situation over three things that come to mind just now, although there are many others, prostitution, school term time holidays and the sugar tax.

In relation to prostitution, it is the poor women who get the blame in relation to its concentration by media and society, it being a bit 'not nice' or that  prostitutes are procurring customers, bringing down the general tamber of an area, any negative angle you care to mention really, basically it is the woman's fault. Why so? Why do we not blame the man for procurring a prostitutes services. If men did not seek sex from women, there would be no prostitutes. Ergo. it is men who are to blame.

Term time holidays. Why do we allow the holiday companies to put up the cost of a trip or holiday in the school holiday time. If that was stopped, the major aspect to taking children out of school in term time to go on holiday would be solved. It is obviously a money making venture by the travel companies.

Sugar tax. Why tax the end result? The people drinking coke or hot chocolate or whatever. Why not tax the companies who are making the stuff we drink? It is not the drinkers fault that they are drinking massess of sugar. They have no control over what is put into the drink.

What I am saying is that we are dealing with the symptoms, the end result, and not dealing with the cause.

Of course I know why. Because it is easier. Less troublesome to blame in that way, rather than tackle the place that should be making changes and accepting responsibility, and because there is not enough critical thinking going on. We live in a world that is superficial over such things and thinking. How sad we are, and how misguided and how easily we allow corporations to profit at our expense.

troubles

It is interesting that wego around and around in circles, saying that we  will learn from an event that has gone badly or gone wrong, but never actualy doing so it seems. We are really bad at learning and doing things differently. The phrase that the definition of madness is repeating the same actions and expecting a different outcome, is oh so sadly true, day by day. Not just for the macro in terms of world politics, but for the micro too, in terms of ourselves. We take steps forward I know, but they are tiny tiny and take so long. Think of all the sadnes, poverty, war etc. in the world, and think of the good bits. Not enough of those I think. One thing we could do is take away great wealth from individuals and re-distribute it. Of course, they could have a few million for themselves, I think it is their money after all, but nobody needs to hold billions for themselves. That is not a catch all solution but it is something that could start the ball rolling in one area of sorting our world troubles.

The main trouble is though I have come to beleive, is that we as a human resource, are simply not smart enough to sort the wars, troubles, politics, conflicts racism ec. etc. We are not clever enough to do it. At least we are not smart, which is different of course. If we were, we would not be in this mess accross the world. If we know the right or best way to behave or change things, why does it not happen? If we were smart enough, it would wouldn't it?

MEN

On the subject of women only train carriages.

Well, apart from the fact we are going backwards. There used to be women only carriages in Victorian times, although still are in Indiaand other countries too, I might have thought that humanity had improved itself since the 1800's. Seems not.

Nobody so far as I can tell, has talked about the role of the men in all this. That's usual of course in relation to violence etc. It is always the focus that women HAVE TO KEEP THEMSELVES SAFE. Well why. Why is it that this is the focus. Should we not be condeming mens behaviour and shout for men to grow up and stop this disgusting and abominable behaviour. WE WOULD NOT NEED WOMEN ONLY CARRIAGES THEN. THIS IS NOT THE WOMENS PROBLEM, IT IS THE MENS problem.

Benefits vote

I have to admit that I do not know much about Jeremy Corbyn, but I am so pleased to see that he has taken a stand against last night's commons vote on benefits. It is the job of the opposition to oppose, not gratuitously, but where necessary, and it was clearly necessary to do so on this issue, for many reasons. One that it is wrong, and two that it is clearly a policy that is in opposition to Labour principles. Thank you Jeremy and all who voted 'no'.

The media have been all over this aspect this morning and once again dragging out the old chestnut about the party being split and not in harmony. Rubbish. It would be impossible, and ridiculous, if all the members believed the same thing about any issue, and that being the fact, it would be wrong to vote in a way that did not accord with your own thoughts and befiefs. Whip or no whip. Dissenters should be accommodated and listened to. They ae the temperers of group think. And we know where that gets us!

The Labour Party

I have to agree, and in fact have stated the fact for a long time now, that the Labour Party really must go back to it's original roots and ressurect it's core mission statement. Tony Blair's new Labour was always nonsense, and it is now, thank God, totally defunct. Drop it party, and be what you are supposed to be. Those principles still have a valid place and are still needed. Nothing has changed. In fact more so now in the face of the policies that the Tories are currently putting forward.

What a shame

I imagine many of you out there have a contract with BT for the provision of your landline telephone. Some of you may have noticed the underhand and nasty way they are conducting business with you these days. It used  to be the case that BT sent out your bill, and then sent you a reminder three weeks of so later, and then sent another if the bill was still unpaid, and gave you fair warning etc. etc. before they made an attempt to suggest that the phone would be cut off if the bill remained unpiad. One may see from this narative knowledge that I have sometimes in the past, been in a financially embarrassed situation and have had to take advantage of their goodwill, or at least a more measured way of doing business with their customers. But now it seems that any measured business or even care of customers, has disappeared although they have not attempted to change the terms of the contract I hold with them by letting me know, which I might say is the right way to do business. No, now, if the bill is unpaid for a week, they sent a text message, a text message I say again, and then after another three or four days, simply cut off the telephone. I can remember a debate from some time ago as to the ethics of cutting off the telephone, as the telephone company had no way of knowing that they would not leave the customer in a very dangerous position. A pregnant woman needing help, elderly, infirm or disabled customers, not having direct access to the outside world. Well, that is another thing that has been forgotten in the headlong rush to squeeze the customer ever more and put money first. Kindness and measure and care for people. All gone. What is the point of business then. I thought it was to provide a service ultimately, although I know I am wrong about that because I see it is to pile up cash, although I won't believe it. I am still not sure that they are legally able to do this as it happens, at least not in the way that they are currently conducting themselves. I feel cross of course, but mostly sad for the loss of goodnes from the world.

It is not about not paying,  it is about allowances for people and their circumstances.

Devoid of brain cells.

You can pick almost anybody from any country in the world and ask them a question or two about what is important, to them and to the way the world functions. I will bet a penny to a pound that they will say, honesty, integrity, kindness, caring about our fellows and behaving well, nicely and with good thought. Those are values that underpin the way that society works, in any country in the world. It is humanity after all and is the basis of human trait. That being the case, which it is, how come some people assume that it is proper behaviour to rant out abuse to others via he internet. I know that the received wisdom and analysis is that becuase the net is once removed from direct human, face to face contact, humans do not make the connection in the same way, in that you would not say horrible things to another person when you are making eye contact. I get that and there may be something in it. However, why would anybody want to say disgusting and horrible things to anybody else anyway. Of course there are times when any person might make a point to another over their conduct in some aspect or another, but when, for example the other person has done nothing wrong, or done anything to elicit horrible and disgusting behaviour, why would anybody do it.

I am highlighting here the aspect of such behaviour for which I can find no word strong enough, in relation to the death of Robin Williams. It is a sad, sad thing when anybody feels that they cannot continue to live, but one must respet their choice and their despair, what one does not do is dish out stupid, screw loose and disgusting behaviour to the family, who are in bereavement and who have done nothing wrong. It appears from what I hear, is that e-mails have been sent to members of his family, which e-mails are full of vile and appalling words of nastiness. Why? I have not got a clue. What is wrong is that there are really thick and stupid people in the world who do not deserve the air they breath. When I say stupid, if I were to say that to their face, they would I hope, consider themselves to be insulted, unless of course that they are stupid, in which case they would not know they had been insulted, so I have to assume that they really are stupid, and not just horrible people. I have to assume that they were not brought up to be horrible people by their mothers and fathers and that they too understand the way that the world works and want honesty, integrity and kindness to prevail around them, and indeed to them. So do grow up all of you out there who indulge yourselves in such ridiculous behaviour and think yourself stupid if you do, but  also think yourself a horrible person too.

Thinking

Billy Bragg commened tghe other day that he thought that todays politicians are not less cognitively able than previous cohorts of politicians. He in other words, did not think that our cuurent politicians are any dimmer than they used to be.  I have to say that I disagree with him. Looking a politicians accross the world, with one or two notable exceptions of course, I think it is pretty obvious that there is not much reflection and emotional intelligence going on. In fact, not just the politicians, people in general.

We have no philosophers these days, thinkers and cognitives who are inputting any leads. The level of thought process is short and inward. Look at the way women ae treated accross the world.  That takes no thought at all. Leads nobody to beleive that there is any examination of behaviour.

Thirty years ago, there was a lot of talk about the human race evolving and improving itself. Whereas we might have completed our evolution in the physical sense, at least as far as we know, we have miles and miles to go so far as the evolution of the mind is concerned. We seemed to have stopped trying to improve our behaviours, examine our thought processess and beliefs, reflect and crtricaly reflect, try to be nicer humans to others, concentrate on what is important and not concentrate on crap, which is unfortunately high profile at the moment.

For the love of God, think, examine, reflect and reach a better decision that the one you are going for now. A decision that does not hurt others, and puts you in a higher bracket of intellectual and 'good'.

Revolt

I have just been listening to an article on radio 4 about the revolt taking place against the bankers bonus annual routine this year. One of the speakers predictably said that 'if you want good and clever people to work at the banks and make money, then you have to pay them astrinomical amounts of cash, and that receiving a bonus that is twice your annual salary is perfectly fine'. The other speaker pointed out that the differential between the poor and the rich is wider now than it was before the 1930's and it is growing. This is a world wide issue. The question here to be addressed is basically what is the most important issue. Which concept should receive precedence?

The payment of huge bonuses is only a mindset. Losing clever people because they apparently will not earn enough to justify them getting out of bed is only a mindset. It is a 'way of thinking' that has become some sort of truth in the mind of those who wish to justify the indefensible. You can tell yourself anything you like, the telling does not make the point a truth. This is the case in this issue. The question to ask is why this job should be so different from any other as to justify huge amounts of remuneration by bonus? What are the bonus receivers and payers congratulating themselves about by patting themselves on the back with money? The mindset is that they deserve it and that it is a truth that they should receive it, and that it is ok that we maintain and enlarge the differential between the haves and the have nots. In any case, the point about making money through bank activity was I thought, to benefit us all.

It has already been said that the banks do not add to the moral good in their practice, either in the micro or the macro. Ask yourself the question as to which aspect is the most important and necessary approach to helping the world and making the world something at least, of being a better place. I always thought that that is what we were working towards as a collective, but that concept seems to have gone of the radar in recent years. Certainly so in the case here it seems. Why do we want to live in a world where we make up rules for some, in a mindset that attempts to defend the indefensible.

I am very busy clearing all the daft e-mails in my comments page. Lots of nonsense from Louis Vitton, Mulberry and other apparent cheap outlets, which bloggs seem to have little or nothing to do with the merchandise. Not that I know what it all means anyway, but there is certainly a great deal of nonsense in the writing. I can't make head nor tail of it all. I think it adds up to some sort of code, known and understood by those in the know only. Clearly not me, and I do not undertstand the point and what it is all for. Terrible grammer much of the time too. I am not sure why I am bothering to comment really. Please think about doing something useful instead.

Sarcasm

The privatisation of the post office is  yet another nonsense. Having learnt nothing from the privatisation of the energy supply and the railway, the government embark on the same pitiful process with an institution that in fact we, as a collective, hold rather dear in our hearts. Even with it's failings. Of course they are (Cameron and his cohort) not interested  in learning that privatisation of such public services is a nonsense and results in chaos and profit motivation above all else, which I suppose some might say, proves that the Tories care nothing for the populace but only the holders of the means to make money. Looking after the people is not the priority and neither is looking after the service. I wonder then where their cognition is as a group which proport to be in politics to make things better. I don't think so.

I am not sure if it is usual to discover on the comment section of a blog, to find thousands of irrelvant and unrelated messages coming from China. Much of the content is indeciferable anyway mostly full of nonsense. I am rather aghast at this. I know that the web is open to all kinds of nonsense, but this nonsense is beyond anything that can even be called nonsense. I am busy deleting it all. It feels very messy to have such rubbish in my in box. I know that my blog means nothing, other than to me, but this stuff cannot mean anything to anybody.
